As the holiday season gets into full swing, we're happy to announce the winners of our 2012 digital photo contest. The competition was fierce, and the entries were all inspiring.
Rising above the rest and claiming the 2012 Grand Prize is Morning Breath by Ron Gile.
Subtly colored and exploding with detail, this haunting image of a surfacing orca exhaling ties perfectly into our theme Inspire. Not only does inspire mean to enliven or affect emotionally, the root of the word inspire is "to breathe." This truly inspirational image will be featured on our poster calendar, and Ron will receive a cash prize of $250!
Stop in to our downtown office on Seward Street during next week's Gallery Walk to pick up your copy of the calendar hot off the presses.
We had so many amazing photos, even the public had a hard time choosing the top 12. You came through for us, and helped us select these great photos for the desktop calendar:
Ice cave by Laurent Dick, Winter totems by Ivan Simonek, South Sawyer Glacier by Ron Gile, Coastal Entropy by Scott Balovich, Even bears take time to smell the flowers in July by John Hyde, Beaver Creek by Ron Gile, Denali by Andy Romanoff, Plane by Tyson Voelckers, Morning Breath by Ron Gile, Double Breach: a mother orca and her young take to the air off Point Retreat by John Hyde, Sitka Homecoming by Linda Wilson, and Morning Flight by Barry Stuart.
Congratulations to all of our winning photographers!
And thank you for stopping in to vote on the photo contest during November's Art Walk. Please join us again on Friday, December 2nd, for Gallery Walk where you will have a chance to see the new art exhibit Words of Advice by Sarah Conarro and Giselle Stone. Sarah and Giselle have been using the Original Heidelberg letterpress in our Airport Boulevard shop to create text-based prints that they are accenting with colorful washes and hand-drawn art.
Our walls will be filled with Words of Advice and our space will be filled with exciting happenings. We'll have Perseverance Theatre selling--and giving away--tickets to A Christmas Carol, KINY broadcasting live, Sitka author Will Swagel's book The Bight Before Christmas for sale, and the 2012 poster calendars available.
As always, join us for great treats and beverages as you enjoy the local art during Gallery Walk. RSVP now!
