2019 Photo Contest Rules

This photo contest is open to all photographers aged 18 and over. The photo contest begins September 13, 2019 and ends October 4, 2019 at 11:59pm Alaska Time (AST). By submitting an entry, you agree to the rules of the contest.

Photos must be submitted through the Photo Contest form. Each photographer may enter up to 5 photos. If more than 5 photos are submitted, only the first 5 will be entered in the contest. Photographers can have up to 2 winning photos in the Top 12. Files must be at least 1800 pixels wide on the longest side. The Grand Prize winner will be asked to submit the original digital photograph file later for large format printing of the poster calendar. Photos with too low of quality may be disqualified. Photographs must have been shot by the entrant since January 1, 2018, and have been taken in Alaska. Photographers shall not submit entries that contain obscene, sexual, pornographic, harassing, fraudulent, threatening, insulting or other illegal or tortious images.

All entries must be original, may not have won previous photo contests, and must not infringe on any third party rights. When a person is recognizable in a photo, you must secure a model release from the subject or the subject’s parent/guardian (for minors) and provide it to Alaska Litho upon request. By submitting any photo to this contest, you represent and warrant that the submitted photo does not and shall not infringe on any copyright, any rights of privacy or publicity of any person, or any other right of any third party, and that you have the right to grant any and all rights and licenses to Alaska Litho, including but not limited to all necessary rights under copyright, free and clear of any claims or encumbrances.

The photographer retains ownership of photos entered into this contest. By entering, you grant Alaska Litho and its subsidiaries the royalty-free right to use, reproduce, edit, display, transmit, prepare derivative works of, modify, publish or otherwise makes use of the submitted photo in any and all media. In addition to other uses, the rights granted to Alaska Litho include but are not limited to displaying photographs for the contest and related activities including promoting the contest, public voting, and printing winning photos in calendars. Alaska Litho will credit the photographer with the caption “© Photographer’s Name” when full name is available.

Judging: Judging of the annual photo contest will be done by a panel of three judges from the Juneau Photo Group.

Public voting for a People’s Choice Award is open October 14-20 at 11:59pm Alaska Time (AST) and will be done by the public via a Facebook app.

Alaska Litho will notify all winners via contact information provided at the time of entry. Anyone who fails to respond within 5 business days may be disqualified. Winning photographers will be announced on our website by the end of October, 2019, after all winners have been notified.

Employees of Alaska Litho and their immediate family (spouse, parents, siblings, children) and members of their households are not eligible.

Alaska Litho will award 13 prizes as follows:

• 1 Grand Prize: $300. Featured on the poster and 12-month calendars.
• 11 Runners Up: $50. Featured in 12-month calendars.
• 1 People’s Choice: 18×24″ metal print of the winning photo presented to the photographer.

All entrants featured in the poster and desktop calendars will receive a copy of the calendars.
